Client: Paintball Online

Goal: Improve on-site SEO and increase Organic traffic

This company suffered from a large amount of thin content getting indexed and the use of manufacturer’s content for product pages. Over the years this resulted in a few Panda-related penalties. They also introduced filtered navigation which had the unintended consequence of producing a large amount of dynamic URLs that were indexed. Many of these pages created duplicate content and produced very thin content pages that were hurting their overall SEO strategy.

As you can see from their Google Analytics Organic traffic trend, I was able to take them from roughly 65K monthly Organic visits to over 130K per month. This lead to a dramatic increase in their overall sales as well.

What we did:

I began implementing our SEO strategy in August of 2014. Much of the SEO work we did to help increase organic traffic included the following:

1. Determined what areas of the site to focus on and optimize based on existing traffic, traffic potential, targeted keywords, past historical performance.
2. Setup strategy to find all duplicate content, rewrite and optimize content based on on-page best practices.
3. Since this site suffered from several internal pages competing against one another (multiple pages for single products for example), we determined which ones to optimize and 301 redirected others.
4. Went through thousands of 404 error pages and determined best strategy to fix, (mostly 301 redirects and use of 410 server response codes).
5. Optimized product/category pages using on-page best practices.
6. Worked with developer to restrict different “sort by” pages and search results pages in order to reduce duplicate content and getting very thin content pages indexed into SERPs – much of this revolved around no-indexing pages. Instead of taking the approach to get as many pages indexed as possible, we focused on removing a large amount of poor pages with little value from the SERPs and only “feeding” them higher quality content – we chose quality of pages over quantity.

As you can see from their Google Analytics Organic traffic trend, I was able to take them from roughly 65K monthly Organic visits to over 130K per month. This lead to a dramatic increase in their overall sales as well.
