What is the ad schedule in Google Ads?

An ad schedule is a feature that allows you to specify particular days and hours of the week for your ads to run. And you can adjust these time periods, and we’ll go over that. By default, Google runs ads 24/7, 7 days a week. So, if you’re creating new campaigns and you’re not adjusting the ad schedule, just know they are running 24/7.

Why should you adjust your ad schedule?

To improve performance. There may be periods of time where your ads don’t perform well from midnight to 7:00 a.m. for example. So instead of continuing to run your ads during these times, it’d be much better to adjust your ad schedule to only run ads during high performing hours and days of the week. Additionally, you may want to run ads during business hours only, for example, because that’s the only time you can answer customer calls.

Okay. Now, I’m going to show you how we can make some ad schedule adjustments.

Edit Campaign Ad Schedules

How the heck did we get to this screen?

What you want to do is first is select the campaign up here that you want to make the ad schedule adjustment to. And once you do that, you’re going to scroll over to the left and under audiences, keywords, and content. Click on add schedule, the blue bar down here. And if you haven’t made any adjustments yet, what you’re going to see is this screen. And what this is showing you is that ads are running 24/7.

Each one of these blue bars let you know for that day. This is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and so on. And when I hover over it, you can see just to the right over here, this is running Monday all day. And then you can see your time scale down here. So if you see this, just know that your ads are running 247, seven days a week.

Now, for illustration purposes, let’s say that you want to run your ads only during business hours from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. In order to make any adjustments, you want to click on the blue button here with the pencil icon. Click on that.

And again, what you will see is another depiction of what it looks like if your ads are running 24/7. In this box, you see all days from midnight to midnight. And this means your ads are running 24/7, seven days a week. Now, let’s say you want to change that to Monday through Friday from 9 to5. You can click into the box all days. And you see there’s options Monday through Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or you can pick individual days. We are going to pick Monday through Friday. And if you want to change the time, click into the box.

We’ll scroll down and select 900 a.m. That’s the start time. And then we’re going to scroll all the way down and find 5:00 p.m. And if that looks good, we will click save. And now we can see a couple changes. We no longer see the blue bars running across the entire timeline for every single day. It’s been restricted to Monday through Friday. And if you hover over it, you can see a popup that says Monday 9 to5. Same thing for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Where To See Ad Schedule Data By Time & Day

And before there was nothing down here and now you can actually see times. And what will start to happen is as you can see Monday 9 to5 every single day of the week there that we want running. We’ll start you’ll start to accumulate data.

We just did this, so there’s no data in here, but you do see clicks, impressions, clickthrough rates. And if we were to continue to let this run, data would start to populate in here, you could see how many clicks, impressions you were generating during these time periods. You can see cost, conversions, your cost per conversions if that’s what you were targeting.

So, you get to see line item data by these times of day and days of the week that you selected. Now, let’s say you decided that you wanted to test running ads for you’ve gotten some data that says, “Hey, Monday or excuse me, Saturday mornings tend to work well for you or you’re going to keep the you’re going to open your business for just the morning hours, for example.

We can add to that. We’ll keep Monday through Friday 9 to5 the same. But we can click this add button. Select any day we want. Saturday for example. And let’s say hey we want to run it from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Click save once you’ve made your edit.

And then now you can see that period for Saturday has shown up here. And then you’ve got Saturday 8 to 12:00 p.m. showing up down here. And if you ever want to edit, for example, if this was your existing ad schedule and you want to edit your ad schedule and remove Saturday, for example, because a bunch of data over the next several months accumulated down here and you saw that Saturday wasn’t performing well and you want to stop running ads. Click the button again and just X out of Saturday. That will go away. Click save and you can see Saturday is gone.

And maybe you want to say, “Hey, let’s test running this thing 24/7. Let’s delete it all together.” Click the X button. And now we’re back to running 247, 7 days a week. And that is how you edit your ad schedule in Google Ads. Thanks for watching.
