Hey there, it’s Nick with GrowMeo. In this video, I’m going to go over Google Ads site links, why you should use them, and how to add them to your ads.

Let’s get started. So, what are site link extensions? They are additional links you can add to your ads. They’re clickable, meaning you can click on them and be taken to a landing page of your choosing.

Sitelink Examples

They appear under the headlines and descriptions in your ads. You can see the example right now of sitelinks, they’re inside the blue boxes.

Now, a good rule of thumb is to use at least four sitelinks for your ads. You can certainly create more, but at minimum, you want to create at least four.

And then one last thing, unfortunately, Google determines when sitelinks get shown in our ads. We don’t have control over that, so Google controls when the sitelinks get shown in ads, and which ones get shown.

The Benefits Of Using Sitelinks

So why should you use Sitelinks in your ads? The first major reason is click-through rates. Sitelinks can greatly improve your click-through rate.

If you aren’t using them in your ads now, I would add them and then monitor your click-through rates to see how much they increase.

Second, they’re eye-catching to users. Because they’re links, the text appears a bit darker than the rest of the text in your ads, and that can be additionally appealing to users.

You can also use sitelinks to send people directly to other pages on your websites. There, if you’ve heard of callouts, callouts are also additional text you can add but they aren’t clickable.

Sitelinks are actually clickable. And you can send people to very specific pages on your website that you might want them to see.

Ideas For Sitelinks

For example, you could create a sitelink that goes to your About Us page, or a page that has case studies or client reviews, or send them directly to your contact page.

Additionally, it’s a good way to guide users who may be interested in checking out different pages on your website. With just the headline and no site links, they can only click on your headline and go to the page that you’ve set up for that headline.

But with additional site links, especially if you can have three, four site links show at a time, that gives users multiple areas or webs, or excuse me, webpages that they can go to based off the URLs that you provide for those sitelinks. So, using sitelinks in your ads is an absolute must. There’s no reason not to use them, and I’ll show you exactly how to do that next.

Okay, so we are in Google Ads and we are looking at site links. How the heck did we get here?

How To Add Sitelinks To Your Ads

On the left side under assets. You’ll see this assets section, click on that, and then in the middle, you should see sitelinks, click on that, and that will show you the page that you’re looking at.

Now, we are looking at a bunch of different sitelinks here. And these are all created at the account level, and you know that because of the second column here has the word account in them.

You can create sitelinks at the account level, the campaign level, and the ad group level, and I’ll show you how to do that. Real quick, let’s look at the anatomy of a site link. We’re going to click into this existing one. Click on edit.

it. Thank you. And essentially, here’s the anatomy of this particular sitelink. Up here, you have essentially the headline, and then you’ve got two spaces for a description, which you always want to add.

The headline has a character limit of 25, and the descriptions have character limits of 35. And then this field, final URL, this is where you get to show or send people to a specific landing page that you choose. So again you got the headline section, two sections for descriptions, and then a final URL. Now let’s say you want to create a new site link.

Click on the blue button, and you will be taken to the section where you can type in your own headline. If you want to add a description, which I highly recommend, you can type that in here, and here, and then finally paste in the URL that you want to take them to.

In this example, if we use an About Us, you’d want to take them to an About Us or an About Me page. Now, this is set, and if you want this at the account level, meaning this will be available for all ads in your account, regardless of the ad group or the campaign they’re in.

If that’s what you want, make sure that, you’re at the account level, and then just scroll down and click Save.

Add Sitelinks At The Campaign And Ad Group Level

But let’s say you want it isolated to a single campaign. To do that, click into this box, select Campaign. You’ll be shown all the campaigns in the account.

Select the one you want, click Done, and now this site link will be restricted to just the branding campaign in this example.

And if you wanted to isolate that further to a single ad group, you kind of rinse and repeat the same process.

Click ad group, it will show you the campaigns. Click the ad, or excuse me, the campaign, and it will show you the ad groups.

In this particular one, there’s only one Select that one, click Done, and now this site link will be restricted to this specific ad group. It won’t be allowed to show in any other ad groups. And if that’s what you want to do, you click Save.

Run Sitelinks For Only A Period Of Time

One additional thing here under Advanced Options, sometimes you may want to show a site link for just a period of time and maybe it’s in relation to a sale or promotion. If that’s the case, click under Advanced Options and you can actually choose the date that you want it to start.

Select a start date. Let’s say it’s today, and it ends on Friday, and you can even change, adjust the days of the week, and the time of day. So just for illustration purposes, this would be a very strange promotion, but it starts today, ends in about four days.

It only runs Monday through Friday from 1am to 5.15am. So anything outside of that, a Saturday at 10am or a Sunday at 1am is not going to trigger the alarm. This site link to show, it’s now going to be restricted to February 23rd to February 27th, and it’s only going to show Monday through Friday from 1am to 5.15am.

So if you wanted to have a site link that ran for just a certain period of time, this is how you would do that.

And then to make sure that you have created a site link at the appropriate level, again, this is the column you want to check the level. These are all at the account level. If you created one at a campaign level, you would see the word campaign instead of the word account or the word ad group.

And that’s how you know the level for your for the site link that you just created. And that is how you add site links to your ads.

Again, no good reason not to add site links. Add all sorts of site links that you think might be compelling to users and see how well that improves your click-through rates and your overall performance.
